A.J. Brown Hits a Home Run with Maryville University

In baseball, the dugout is far more than just a bench; it’s a hub for team activity, preparation, and communication. It’s where team bonds are formed, strategies take shape, and players do whatever is necessary to make sure that their next at bat counts. A.J. Brown was recently called to the plate for another project for Maryville University- centered around Weber Field’s dugouts- and sure enough, through teamwork, preparation and communication- we helped bring home a winner.

We recently completed this exciting addition and renovation project at Weber Field, located at 650 Maryville University Drive in Creve Coeur, Missouri. The project, commissioned by Maryville University and led by Angie Warner and Kevin Cordray, marked another opportunity to partner with the university—and we made it count.

The scope of work included the complete demolition of the existing home and visitor dugouts, along with the outdated outdoor batting cages. In their place, we constructed a brand-new, indoor, climate-controlled batting cage facility to provide year-round training capabilities. We also built modern dugouts featuring durable metal roofs, enhancing both form and function for players and coaches alike. As part of the upgrade, we repaved the road leading down to the field, improving accessibility and overall aesthetics.

While the project presented several challenges, including an accelerated schedule and unseasonably cold weather during the final phases, our team remained agile and committed. A significant hurdle arose when we encountered solid rock while digging the dugout foundations—a surprise that required immediate problem-solving and schedule adjustments.

As Project Manager Darrell VankyGrifka said, “Thanks to constant, transparent communication with the university, we were able to navigate a variety of obstacles successfully. Maryville was a true partner throughout the process, working collaboratively with us to manage delays and keep the project on track. This has been a real team effort.”

As this was our largest project to date with Maryville University, we were eager to make a lasting impression. We approached every step of the job with a focus on quality, precision, and professionalism. The successful completion of this project not only delivered tangible improvements to Weber Field but also laid the groundwork for a strong ongoing relationship with the university.

In the words of our President, Doug Rendleman, “At A.J. Brown, we’re proud to contribute to the infrastructure that supports student-athletes and their development—and we’re looking forward to what’s next with Maryville University. Let’s go Saints!”

“Maryville was excited for the opportunity to upgrade our baseball facility and truly appreciated the collaboration with A.J. Brown’s team. While the weather challenges put pressure on the schedule and budget, the team stayed in constant communication and proactively worked through every issue. The result is a beautiful, upgraded facility that will serve our baseball program well into the future. We look forward to many more successful projects together.”
